2014 ANNUAL REPORT

HackensackUMC at Mountainside

Leadership Message

Uplifting the Standard of Patient Care in Suburban Essex and Neighboring Passaic County

Although 2014 was a challenging, transitional year for the entire healthcare industry, it was a successful and productive one at HackensackUMC Mountainside. This past year, we upheld the hospital’s 124-year tradition of service and made great strides in ensuring that it’s well-positioned for the future.

Many with a shared interest in our mission of delivering convenient, local access to comprehensive world-class healthcare were crucial to our success. Long-time, steadfast supporters were joined by new additions to our team, including highly-regarded specialists and much needed primary care physicians (PCPs). In fact, with a projected shortage of PCPs looming nationwide, our Mountainside Medical Group recruited talented PCPs and established community-based offices throughout our service area.

Strong physician relationships are fundamental to the vitality of every hospital, so we’re committed to fostering a dynamic environment that attracts and retains the best practitioners. As a result of our membership in the Hackensack University Health Network and diverse clinical accomplishments that include: a Leapfrog A grade Hospital Safety Score; a Cancer Center accredited with special commendations by the Commission on Cancer; a nationally recognized Bariatric Center of Excellence; a Stroke Center that has consistently received Gold Awards from the American Heart/Stroke Association; and countless other indicators of exceptional quality; we are distinguishing HackensackUMC Mountainside as the premier hospital to be affiliated with in suburban Essex and neighboring Passaic County.

Furthermore, we’re fortunate to have visionary joint venture partnership owners, the Hackensack University Health Network and LHP, who’ve acknowledged our achievements and given us a vote of confidence by committing to fund extraordinary capital improvements in 2015-17. Those strategic enhancements will include:

Every improvement we’ll be undertaking will support our efforts to retain leading physicians and the best available staff in other health professions, thereby ensuring the finest care for our patients. Success is a moving target in our industry. However, at HackensackUMC Mountainside, our team has the dedication and talent to adapt and thrive in changing times.
