In January 2015, Hackensack University Health Network and Seton Hall University (SHU) made history as we announced a Memorandum of Understanding to form a new, four-year school of medicine. This partnership will establish the only private school of medicine in the state and provide a significant economic boost to the region. The school will be located on the campus of the former Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., a state-of-the-art biomedical facility, in Nutley and Clifton, New Jersey.
Healthcare and academic leaders, elected officials, board members and team members visited the proposed campus location for a special press conference. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Congressman Bill Pascrell joined our HackensackUMC team along with Dr. A. Gabriel Esteban, president of SHU; and Thomas Lyon, vice president and site head at Hoffmann-La Roche Inc.; in making the public announcement.
The first class is expected to begin within the next three years. Hackensack University Health Network looks forward to partnering with SHU in making the school of medicine one of the best in the nation.
