In collaboration with The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center, the medical center is committed to identifying, controlling and ultimately preventing the toxic exposures in the environment that threaten the health and well-being of children, their families and the wider community. In 2012, HackensackUMC became the only hospital in Bergen County to sign a voluntary Memorandum of Understanding with the Environmental Protection Agency pledging to become an environmental steward by implementing a number of green initiatives that will reduce our carbon footprint and further improve our planet’s environment. Our efforts in 2013 involved strategic partnerships with local organizations such as PSE&G, TerraCycle, Green Demolitions, and Benjamin Moore & Co.
HackensackUMC earned Practice Greenhealth’s highest honor as a 2014 Environmental Excellence Award winner, earning recognition as one of the Top 25 green hospitals in the country.
The medical center also received the 2014 NJBIA Award for Excellence in Environmental Quality.
